Anti-static mats are designed to protect sensitive electronics from electro-static discharge. That's why they are sometimes referred to as esd mats. By dissipating electro static charge, these mats help eliminate the devastating effects that esd can have on computers and other sensitive equipment. Protect your sensitive electronics by installing anti-static mats on the floor surrounding the equipment.
Conductive matting achieves the same result by electrically conducting any built-up charges through the mat to a common ground where the mat is connected.
Switchboard matting is designed to protect workers from electrical equipment hazards by NOT being conductive. The mat acts as an insulator between building or earth ground and the human who comes into contact with the machinery. Should there be an inadvertent electrical charge on the equipment, the mat insulates the worker from ground so that an electrical current does not flow through the body to the mat.
